  • Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, username, and password (which is cryptographically hashed).
  • Movie Activity: We collect data on the movies you watch, including titles, dates, times, theaters, formats, and your personal notes or ratings.
  • Imported Data: If you use our import features, we process data you upload from third-party sources (such as Letterboxd or Reel Savings) solely to populate your watch history.
  • Mystery Movie Data: If you participate in Mystery Movie features, we may process ticket information you provide to identify screenings.
  • Technical Data: We may collect internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, and operating system data for security and debugging purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Generate personal statistics, visualizations (e.g., "Year in Review"), and badges.
  • Send you administrative emails (such as password resets or account notifications) via our email provider, SendGrid.
  • Match your watch history with metadata from The Movie Database (TMDb).
  • Provide a subscribable calendar feed (ICS format) of your watch history, which you may choose to add to third-party calendar services.

4. Google Integration & User Data

If you choose to connect your Google account to MovieTrips:

  • Gmail Integration (Optional): If you enable ticket scanning, we may access specific emails solely to identify movie tickets and parse showtime details. We do not read, store, or process emails unrelated to movie tickets.
Limited Use Disclosure: MovieTrips' use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Sharing of Information

  • Public Profiles: By default, your profile and watch history are public and visible to other users. You can change this to "Private" in your Privacy Settings.
  • Service Providers: We share data with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Service, such as SendGrid (email delivery) and Google Cloud (hosting).
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way. This includes encryption of sensitive data (such as OAuth tokens) at rest and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) options for user accounts.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

Our Service uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb. Our Service may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites.

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can manage your profile settings within the app or contact us to request a full data deletion.
